drunk. Another synonym for inebriated. Although the original metaphor is of someone knocked unconscious (or placed in a mortuary), the use of the phrase does not necessarily indicate intoxication to the point of stupefaction.

under the influence of drugs. This sense of the term, deriving from the previous one, is most commonly used by teenagers.
